SODA 500-hour Somatic Movement Educator Training Program
The Somatic Dialogues Academy was founded by four experienced somatic professionals (see resume below) with extensive teaching experience in Laban Bartenieff Movement System®, Body-Mind Centering®, Skinner Releasing Technique®, and Contact Improvisation, as well as practice in body-related activism. The curriculum covers the fundamentals/foundation of somatics, including movement principles, movement processes, somatic awareness, movement repatterning, somatic organization, verbal and non-verbal communication, and movement analysis. The program incorporates materials from Body-Mind Centering®, Laban Bartenieff Movement Analysis®, Skinner Releasing Technique®, and Contact Improvisation. It focuses on the additional information and resources that emerge from their ”dialogue”.
The training program has been designed for students with a basic level of experience in movement and body awareness, and having a profound interest in becoming qualified Somatic Movement Educators.
The 500-hour program consists of two parts. The first one is 300 hours and focuses on establishing a good foundation of bodily experience, covering movement principles, movement processes, somatic organization, somatic awareness, movement analysis, ethical touch, movement repatterning, verbal and nonverbal communication, and consent work.
The second part is 200 hours, which focuses on pedagogical and professional issues, including teaching skills, designing and facilitating movement activities, developing lesson plans, models of case management, group psychology, evaluation tools, the practice of critical feedback, self-support, networking, and quality assurance processes to prepare candidates for professional practice.
